Moodle, Blog and Kaltura Workshops: Fall 2019

Presented by the Teaching and Learning Centre, these workshops will support faculty with using the Moodle LMS and WordPress Blogs as well as the Kaltura media platform for use to enhance and support their curriculum delivery to students.

moodleGetting Started with Moodle
Date: Friday, August 30th, 10:00am – 12:00pm
Location: Teaching + Learning Centre, room C2250 – located in the Library & Learning Commons
This workshop provides an overview of the Moodle learning management system: how to create activities such as forums, assignments and add course resources.  This will be an opportunity for participants to bring in their course materials (preferably on a USB drive) and have direct assistance and tutorials for how to upload and organize their course materials for their Fall 2019 courses. Participants must have requested a Moodle course to attend. (Follow the instructions in your email.)

Advanced Moodle
Date: Wednesday, September 4th, 10:00am – 12:00pm
Location: Teaching + Learning Centre, room C2250
Participants will learn Moodle features such as creating student groups, creating assignments and quizzes, adding videos using Kaltura and using the Moodle gradebook. Participants must have requested a Moodle course to attend.

Using Blogs for Courses and Research (Using WordPress software)
Date: Friday, August 30th, 1:0pam – 2:30pm
Location: Teaching + Learning Centre, room C2250
Participants will learn how to add content such as files, images and video to a potential course or research blog. Participants will also learn how to organize students to author their assignments to a blog site or how to organize their research on a blog site. Participants must have requested a Blog to attend.

kaltura mediaspaceUsing Kaltura in Moodle
Date: Wednesday, September 4th, 2:00pm-3:30pm
Location: Teaching + Learning Centre, room C2250
The Kaltura application and its integration with Moodle allows video to be linked into a course page or embedded into any Moodle resource or activity where the Moodle text editor is present. Learn how to upload and embed video to a course, create a course student gallery, set up a video assignment and add a video quiz.

How to Request a New Moodle course shell or Blog.

New Moodle Course Requests (http://courses.ecuad.ca)
If you need a new course shell/shells for the upcoming semester(s),

  • Please first login to the Moodle course site at http://courses.ecuad.ca
  • Then click on the “Links Menu”  at the top of the page and click on the New Moodle Course Request. You will see a page with these fields to fill in’
  • You will need to enter the full mnemonic name and title of your course. Please also copy and paste in your course summary from the main Emily Carr website course description.
  • There is also an area called “Previous course info” for you to fill in with the Moodle course you are currently teaching or have taught before, whose material you would like us to bring into your new Moodle course shell.

Blogging (WordPress) Course Requests (http://blogs.eciad.ca)
Faculty interested in having a blog setup for a course, their research, department or a personal site, should send a request to tlc@ecuad.ca with the full mnemonic name and title of the course. The Teaching and Learning Centre will setup the blog and provide training through group and individual workshops.

Faculty must RSVP for attending any workshop to tlc@ecuad.ca
Please consider bringing your laptop as there are a limited number of computers to use in the TLC.
